What others say about CBOO
While CBOO itself has grown from strength to strength and met the aspirations of its members and involved in social action and interaction, the views of others who participated in or were associated with its activities are very satisfying. In this section extracts, reactions and comments of different personalities are reproduced
Sri K R Ramamoorthy, the then Chairman of the Bank [1996]
You must be proud. Last 49 Joint Meetings have led to ameliorating the service conditions of officers. As a proactive organization, you have made tremendous strides in ameliorating the working conditions of officers over the years. The most recent example is the latest promotion policy which is unique as it recognizes the aspirations of the senior officers also. As a positive trade union you have done good things in inviting eminent intellectuals to speak on contemporary issues on various occasions so as to stimulate the thought process. I must compliment CBOO for all these things.
Sri K R Shenoy, then Executive Director[1996]
You have been very responsive in ironing out many issues. Today let us jointly identify the areas of common interest and set a time frame for implementing them…..
I am happy, you have taken this joint meeting seriously and come well prepared. What is concerning us today is the pace of rapid changes taking place around us which is having a bearing on our working.
Sri R S Hugar, then C M D of the Bank[1998]
…. As a proactive organization, CBOO has always been contributing in its own way to the growth of our Bank and welfare of the officer colleagues. I have noted, with great interest, that CBOO has gone beyond the realm of conventional trade unionism. It has introduced series of new activities which enhanced its image as a positive and value oriented union. Setting up of Benevolent Fund for the noble cause of assisting during the event of serious ailments / death of the member is a jewel in the crown….. Its Education & Training Wing is undertaking a number of activities especially in helping the promotion aspirants with training input and study materials… it has been conducting seminars and lectures on contemporary issues.
Sri Ramesh Kumar, then Speaker of Karnataka Legislative Assembly[1997]
I am happy that CBOO has undertaken many activities to serve the community. CBOO is the organization of bank officers and trust is the foundation of banking. The scandals have shaken the faith of people in the values. To ensure that the guilty are punished all the citizens should extend their support. In this process trade unions have an important role to play. Like minded people and organizations should come together, form a federation and help restore the values in the society.
Dr. M. S. Swaminathan, Agricultural Scientist[1995]
…I compliment you for promoting an organization - your Corporation Bank Officers’ Organisation which is committed to the cause of spreading a common wave length within the Organisation, a wave length of shared values, of shared commitments, of shared goals, of a shared vision.
Late Prof. S Swaminathan, Business Editor, The Hindu[1996]
I join you in commemorating the valuable services he has rendered not only in forming this fellowship of officers of Corporation Bank but in giving it the momentum, a dynamism, the leadership and the social vision needed to make it a continuing organization.
R H Sharma, Chief Secretary, Indian Institute of Bankers[1998]
Unless the canvas is healthy the picture will not be clear. Unless the union is strong the development will not be easy. Union has a responsibility to develop human resources. This is one of the roles of the Union.
Medha Patkar, of National Alliance of People’s Movement & Narmada Bachao Andolan (August 15, 1998)
It was a privilege to be with the CBOO activists who have raised social issues much beyond the normal practice of the organized sector trade union these days. The talk and action towards even a little progress on the path of equity and justice will go a long way in strengthening the non-party peoples political organization and struggles. I appeal them to join us to fight for the best legal social living and working conditions for the poor and the unorganized in this country and for saving the natural resources from the global devouring and controlling powers.
Dr. N K Thingalaya, then C M D of Syndicate Bank and Economist (January 26, 1999)
I am highly impressed by the genuine concern your Organisation has shown towards some very constructive activities beyond the usual Trade union activities. You have set a new trend in taking up social work, pooling together your own resources. I am extremely happy to learn about your programme of adoption of a few schools. Channelising the energy of the bank officers for building a better society is a laudable objective. This would also enable you to play an effective role in contributing to the growth of your Bank which is now being considered as No.1 Bank.
Dr. C S Venkata Ratnam, Professor, International Management Institute, New Delhi (June 28, 2002)
Sincere compliments for splendid effort in running the union on professional lines. The education foundation will have a major role in preparing the cadres to deal with the manifold challenges. I wish CBOO success in its efforts.
Dr. K Kasturirangan, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) & Space Scientist (July 8, 2004)
Very impressive organization, committed, with full of conviction. I wish all those belonging to the organization the very best professionally and personally.
Jayaprakash Narayan, Lok Satta (July 8, 2004)
Banking sector has been the backbone of our economy. The fact that we withstood the financial sector collapse of East Asia, and escaped unhurt in the 90’s is a testimony to our resilience. Corporation Bank and its officers demonstrate why and how we are able to make this difficult transition relatively painless, citizen friendly and growth oriented. I congratulate CBOO for its outstanding work, discipline and organizational ability.
K. Cherian Varghese, then Chairman & Managing Director (8th August, 2004)
I am delighted to meet members of the CorpBank family and greet them. Let us together maintain the pride in belonging to an organization, CorpBank, which is admired nationally and internationally and take our beloved institution to greater heights in the period ahead. I am impressed by the way the Conference is organized and wish Shri T R Bhat and Shri D N Prakash and the entire team all the best in their progressive endeavours.
What members / Associates say about CBOO
Sri G C Dixit, Promotee Officer, Hyderabad
I was very much delighted to receive your congratulations on my promotion to JMG Scale I. Your letter boosted my morale and gave tremendous encouragement to accept my new responsibility. I decided to join CBOO, after sincere and serious thought. The brochure and the letter which you had sent me has helped me very much to take this decision. I joined CBOO not because of the influence of some personalities as such, but because of its principle, commitment and leadership qualities.
Sri Vinayak Biwalkar, Promotee Officer, Mumbai
I have joined CBOO on my promotion to officers’ cadre. I had made up my mind long back that is in 1984 when you used to visit our branch. During those days, I hardly got any opportunity to interact with you, but fortunately I was able to watch you. It was your style of functioning which impressed me considerably. During that time itself I started reading your house journal. I was delighted to read your editorials which were always balanced in message and extraordinary in language. I never came across a slanderous editorial.
Mrs. Janaki Ganesh, Widow of P V Ganesh Iyer
With much pleasure I write to inform you that my son P G Venkatachalam has received orders appointing him as Probationary Clerk and posted to RO Cochin. On this occasion no measure of words is enough to express our sincere thanks to your glorious and militant organization and to one and all of the dedicated workers involved in it. Your kind help will ever be remembered by myself and by each one of our family members.
A Member
I write to express my sincere gratitude to you in getting my transfer order modified. I would like to meet you personally to express my “thanks”. But until then this letter is sent to you to acknowledge your timely help. A friend in need is a friend in deed. I revere you as a friend and well wisher. At times when certain people around me ridiculed me and branded me as inefficient (which I firmly deny) it was you in whom I placed my trust. You respected me as an individual and as a colleague, not merely as a union member. Your words “Don’t worry” filled in me the confidence for which kind gesture I am grateful to you. You were kind enough to listen to my grievances. I will be failing in my duty if I forget the union activists who stood by me in times of my mental turmoil. My sincere thanks to them, too. May their tribe increase. |
